Friday Favorites 9/28

Happy Weekend everyone.  I had this post ready to go yesterday but forgot to schedule it - oops!  So here are my Friday Favorites on Saturday.

Great Craft Project
These cute little thumb acorn thumb tacks on Stylist Home really made me smile.

Great Blogging Tips
I'm loving Heather Porto's Blogging 101 Tips series.  Just little tid bits of advice everyday.  I've learned a lot from Blogs by Heather over the years.  I'd recommend that every blogger check it out.

Great Advice
Time Management is something I struggle with and these 6 tips on Dumb Little Man are a great reminder of things I should be doing.

Great Project
This vintage postcard travel journal by Kara Haupt made my heart skip a beat. To see more of her work, visit her lovely blog, I Just Might Explode.

Great Video
I got such a kick out of the latest Project Goodlife video by Jonathan Fields: an interview with Helene Godin, who after 22 years as a lawyer, decided to open a bakery. She has such a great attitude and  positive energy, it's an inspiring piece.

Wishing you a restful Sunday!

Fall Fabric Banner with Template

I would really love to make beautiful things from fabric, but I have to face the fact that paper is my thing.  However, hanging a paper banner on our front porch is not very practical, so my daughter and I created a fabric fall banner this weekend.   It was fun to make because we were doing it together, but it was definitely a challenge.

 Here's how we did it:

  1. Cut out 12 triangles from wool or felt in Fall colors.  Pattern is here.
  2. Iron scraps of fabric onto fusible webbing and cut out leaves using Big Shot and a leaf die.  Peel off paper backing and fuse leaves onto the triangles with warm iron.
  3. Lay out triangles in pleasing pattern and pin to 1" twill tape that has been folded in half.
  4. Stitch felt triangles to twill tape leaving several inches on each end for tying.
Here's how it looks hung on the porch.

Friday Favorites 9/21

I haven't shared any Friday Favorites for a while.  So, here are a few things that have inspired me this week:

Tutorials and Free Downloads
I recently discovered Pugly Pixel  - a great site with lots of photoshop tutorials and free downloads.  I downloaded the photo frames I used in my last three posts from there.  It's awesome!

Inspiring Reading
I've enjoyed the writing of Leslie Green on her blog Trust Life Today this week.

Cool Project
How clever is this Canning Lid Pumpkin by Kristen at Simply Klassic Home?  I love it!

Yummy Recipes
I stumbled across a recipe site via Pinterest called Skinny Taste.  I love its clean design and simple looking recipes.  The first on my list to try is Asian Edamame Fried Rice.  It looks yummy!

Fall Decor
I can't wait to try this Fall decorating idea from Better Homes and Gardens.  I love its rustic simplicity.  And it'll give me a good excuse to clean up all the acorns accumulating in my back yard!

I hope you enjoy visiting these sites.  Thanks for stopping by.

Coptic Binding

Happy weekend!  I've been wanting to learn how to create books using the coptic binding method for ages.  A local art school normally runs a class each Fall and I've been looking on their site all summer for the class schedule.  But don't you know, they're not offering it this season.

So, I a few weeks ago, I set out to teach myself using books and videos.  It does take patience and practice, and I need a lot of both!  Here are my first few attempts.  I'll keep you updated as my technique progresses.

Have you every tried this method?  I'd love to know how you got on and any tips you have - share your ideas in the comments section.

Village Arts & Music Project

I took part in the Villages Arts & Music Project yesterday in West Acton and it was great!  The event was organized by 3 Rivers Arts - it was well attended for its first year with lots of great art and music.  I met some wonderful new people and bumped into some old friends too.  And the weather was beautiful - I have the sunburn to prove it!

Here are a couple of pictures of my table:

 Happy Monday!

Stamping for Vivian

I'm so exited to be working on a fundraiser with 2 friends and fellow stampers - Chrissy Ferron and Christyann Rothmel.  It's to benefit 1 year old Vivian Lemire, Chrissy's cousin's daughter, who needs a life saving kidney transplant.  Although her family has medical insurance, they still have to come up with $50,000 out of pocket expenses.

Join us on September 29 at the Pepperell Community Center between 10am and 3pm for stamping, shopping and prizes.  For a $25 donation, you will make 10 really cute cards for a variety of occasions. Plus you get the opportunity to shop at a huge crafters' yard sale featuring lots of current and retired of Stampin' Up! products.

Please click on one of the Share Buttons below and spread the word about this great event!

To sign up for this event or if you have questions, email me alimanning@charter.net or chrissyferron@yahoo.com.

Book Binding - Pamphlet Stitched Notebooks

I have a show next weekend, The Village Arts and Music Project organized by 3 Rivers Arts based here in Groton.  It's on September 9th from 12:30-5:30pm on Massachusetts Ave in West Acton, MA.

I've been busy creating journals and notebooks for the show, here are a few I made last night.

They are pamphlet stitched single signature notebooks with 20 plain pages covered with patterned paper covers.

If you live locally, I hope you'll stop by next weekend and say hello.
